Vietnamese hair so expensive because good hair is never just collected, packed and sold. Before one bundle reaches a customer, the hair has already passed through sourcing, sorting, cleaning, matching, production and quality control.

At GreatHair, from every 10kg of raw hair we collect, only about 8kg meets our export-grade standard. The rest is removed because it does not match our requirements for length, strength, direction, texture or overall condition. That is the real reason behind the price. Premium Vietnamese hair costs more because more care is taken before the hair ever reaches the customer.

Why is Vietnamese hair so expensive?

We source and receive our raw hair directly from hair growers in the northern mountainous areas and the Red River Delta region of Vietnam. What makes this source valuable is the way the hair is naturally cared for. It is rarely exposed to heavy bleaching, dyeing or chemical treatments, so the raw material already comes to us with good natural strength, smoothness and quality from the start.

Key Takeaways: Why Premium Vietnamese Hair Costs More

  • Years of natural growth Longer hair (18″+) takes significant time to grow and is much harder to source in consistent quality and length.
  • Strict quality selection Only about 80% of raw hair collected meets export-grade standards. The remaining 20% is rejected.
  • Stronger natural fiber Thicker, healthier strands handle bleaching, dyeing, and heat styling better while maintaining durability.
  • More intensive sorting Creating full, even ends (especially in double drawn hair) requires removing more short strands and more labor.
  • Minimal processing Less chemical treatment preserves the hair’s natural strength, movement, and versatility for professional use.
  • Handcrafted production High-quality wigs require 1–3 days of skilled handwork per piece.

Long Hair Takes Time

Long hair cannot be rushed. Human hair grows slowly, so every extra inch carries time behind it. An 18 inch bundle may represent years of natural growth. A 24 inch or 30 inch bundle is even harder to collect in clean, healthy and consistent quality.

This is why longer Vietnamese hair is not priced like short mixed hair. The longer the hair, the smaller the supply becomes. The factory also has to remove more short strands to keep the final bundle looking full and even.

A long bundle is not simply more hair. It is more time, more selection and more loss during sorting.

From Vietnamese Hair Source to Great Hair Products

We Do Not Use Everything We Collect

This is one of the clearest reasons Vietnamese hair costs more.

At GreatHair, every 10kg of raw hair does not become 10kg of finished export hair. After checking and sorting, only around 8kg is accepted for export-grade production.

The remaining 2kg may still be real human hair, but it does not meet our standard. It may be too short, too weak, too dry, reversed, uneven, over-processed or unsuitable for premium products.

That 20% loss is still part of the factory cost. We still pay for sourcing, collecting, transporting, checking and sorting it. But we do not put it into premium bundles just to reduce the price.

We Do Not Use Everything We Collect

Stronger Hair Fiber Gives More Value

Vietnamese hair costs more because the strand itself has strong natural value. Good Vietnamese hair is usually dark, firm and full-bodied, with a thicker feel than many low-grade mixed hair sources.

In hair fiber measurement, strands above 80 μm are often considered thick. This matters because thicker, healthier strands can handle more washing, brushing, styling and processing before losing their natural feel.

That is why the price is higher. Buyers are not only paying for softness or shine. They are paying for a stronger fiber that can stay usable after coloring, heat styling and repeated wear.

Fuller Ends Need More Sorting

Two bundles can both weigh 100g, but they may not look the same.

A cheaper bundle can be thick near the top and thin at the ends. This usually happens when too many short strands are kept inside the bundle. The weight is there, but the visual quality is not.

A better bundle needs more careful sorting. Shorter strands are removed so the hair falls better and the ends look fuller. This is especially important for double drawn and super double drawn hair.

The fuller the ends, the more raw hair we need. More sorting also means more time, more labor and more rejected strands.

Less Processing Keeps The Hair Natural

Some hair looks very smooth at first because it has been heavily coated or chemically softened. It may look good in photos, but the real quality often appears after a few washes.

Premium Vietnamese hair is different. The goal is to keep the natural strength and movement of the hair, not to cover weak raw material with heavy processing.

Less processing helps the hair feel more natural. It also gives salons and brands more room to customize the hair later.

Less Processing Keeps The Hair Natural

It Can Be Bleached Dyed And Heat Styled

High-quality Vietnamese hair can be bleached, dyed and styled with heat when handled properly.

Because the hair is selected carefully and not over-processed from the beginning, it can be used for color work, tone adjustment and custom styling. This makes it suitable for salons, wig makers and private label brands that need more than one basic texture or color.

The hair can also be styled with heat tools up to around 180°C with proper care. This makes it suitable for straightening, curling, body waves and daily styling work.

Still, it should be treated like real human hair. Too much bleach, repeated high heat or poor aftercare can damage even good hair. Heat protectant, professional coloring and proper maintenance are always important.

Wigs Take Real Handwork

A wig is not just hair attached to a cap. To make a clean wig, the factory needs to choose the right hair, prepare the texture, control the density, work on the lace, shape the hairline, style the final look and inspect the whole piece before packing.

At GreatHair, one wig usually takes around 1 to 3 days to complete, depending on the length, density, lace type, texture and custom request.

That time matters. A natural hairline, clean lace, balanced density and smooth finish all require trained hands. Machines can help, but they cannot replace skilled workers in every step.

Wigs Take Real Handwork

Why Premium Vietnamese Hair Commands a Higher Price

What affects the price What it means in production
Long natural growth Longer hair takes years to grow and is harder to source
Export-grade selection Only about 8kg from every 10kg of raw hair meets our standard
Sorting loss Around 20% is removed before premium production
Fuller ends More short strands must be removed to make the bundle look even
Less chemical processing Better raw hair is needed from the beginning
Bleach and dye potential Stronger hair gives salons more room for custom color work
Heat styling Can be styled up to around 180°C with proper care
Wig production One wig usually takes around 1 to 3 days to complete

Check Points Before Buying Vietnamese Hair

When comparing Vietnamese hair suppliers, look beyond the price per bundle. Consider the following factors:

  • Can the supplier clearly explain the hair’s origin and sourcing regions?
  • Has the hair been properly sorted by length, direction, texture, and quality?

  • Do the bundles have full, even ends from top to bottom (not just thick at the roots)?

  • Can the hair be bleached, dyed, and heat-styled while maintaining its integrity?

  • For wigs: What is the lace quality, density control, hairline finish, and overall craftsmanship?

Lower-priced options often come with compromises such as thin ends, mixed lengths, heavy coatings, or weaker strands that degrade quickly after washing and styling. These issues can lead to higher return rates and affect your brand reputation.

Premium Vietnamese hair is priced higher because it goes through rigorous selection, careful sorting, and minimal processing resulting in more consistent performance and longer-lasting results for your clients.

FAQ

Is Vietnamese hair worth the higher price?
Yes, especially for salons, resellers and private label brands that need stable quality, fuller ends and hair that can perform well after washing and styling.

Why is long Vietnamese hair more expensive?
Long hair takes years to grow and becomes harder to collect in clean, healthy and consistent quality.

Does expensive Vietnamese hair always mean better quality?
Not always. Buyers should still check sourcing, sorting, fullness of the ends, hair direction, processing level and QC before shipment.

Why does double drawn Vietnamese hair cost more?
Because more short strands are removed to make the bundle look fuller from top to end, which creates more raw hair loss and more labor.
